Dragon Medical One Training - Specialty Selection
Choose the right Dragon Medical One specialty at login to tailor vocabulary. DMPE specialties were consolidated into these general groupings.
The most important Dragon Medical One function is hearing what is said, recognizing it, and presenting it accurately. Loading every possible word into one dictionary would slow recognition. Instead, Dragon uses medical language models so it can focus on the vocabulary that matters for clinical documentation.
The medical language model is a major reason Dragon Medical One outperforms non-medical dictation software. You can take that further by choosing the specialty that best matches your work.
This tutorial assumes you already have Dragon Medical One installed.
Set your specialty at login
When you first log into Dragon Medical One, one of the options is Specialty. Choosing the right value lets Dragon tailor vocabulary to your field of medicine, which improves accuracy and reduces how often you need to train or add custom words.
Consolidated specialties in Dragon Medical One
If you are upgrading from Dragon Medical Practice Edition, you will notice far fewer specialty options. Dragon Medical Practice Edition offered over 200 individual specialties. Dragon Medical One consolidates those into a smaller set of general specialty groupings so setup is simpler while still loading a strong, field-focused vocabulary.
The Specialty dropdown includes these groupings:
- General Medicine
- Clinical Administration
- Cardiology
- Emergency
- Internal Medicine
- Mental Health
- Neurology
- Orthopedics
- Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Oncology
- Pathology
- Pediatrics
- Surgery
Pick the grouping closest to your practice. If your former DMPE specialty is not listed by name, choose the broader group that best covers the terms you dictate most often. You can still add names, drugs, and local terms later through Manage Vocabulary when something is missing.
Clinical Administration for non-physicians
If you are not a physician, you may not want a physician specialty. That applies to roles such as clinical administrators, lawyers, insurance representatives, and similar jobs. For those users, select "Clinical Administration" for a broader vocabulary that is not tied to one clinical field.
